Recollections
from Eagle Bend's Past
25 Years Ago April 26, 1995 The Eagle Valley High School softball team opened its season with an 11-3 win over Otter Tail Central on Thursday in Henning. Senior Jodi Taggart pitched the entire game for the Rebels and did not allow a base on balls while giving up eight hits and two earned runs. ********** Game one saw Nick Holmquist pitch a complete game by allowing no earned runs, just three hits and no walks. He has not allowed an earned run in 14.3 innings this spring. Holmquist and Chris Johnson drove home both runs in the fourth inning with RBI ground balls.
50 Years Ago April 23, 1970 The Lyle (Scotty) Greenwaldt farm home northwest of the village was damaged beyond repair on Monday, April 20, as the result of a fire which is believed to have started from a defective or overloaded electrical circuit. Because of the intense flames which almost immediately engulfed the stairway leading upstairs, one member of the family was forced to jump from a second story window. All those in the burning building were forced to flee only partially clothed. ********** As a result of Federal Legislation, the controversial daylight saving time will be imposed upon Eagle Bend residents, along with the rest of the nation on Sunday, April 26, and will be in effect for a period of six months.
