Melissa and Michelle Severson, daughters of Monte and Marlys Severson, formerly of Eagle Bend, are members of the Alexandria Jefferson High School Marching Band which appeared in the Fiesta Bowl parade in Phoenix, Arizona last December. The band claimed the national championship by earning the sweepstakes award. A panel of seven judges selected Alexandria as the overall best band from among eighteen bands representing fifteen states. In addition to having the highest total score, they were recognized with a first place award for marching, general effect and a second place award for music. Their grandmother is Audrey Clementson of Eagle Bend.

Congratulations to Todd County 4-H’ers participating in dairy judging activities this summer. On Saturday, July 22, they participated in the annual Wadena County Fair Dairy Judging Contest. Todd County 4-H teams placed first and second. Members of the first place team included: Paul Detloff, Kurt Detloff and Nichole Tyrrell, all members of the A-1 Club and David Holmquist, Hustlin Rustics.

The local senior citizens center has two new board members on its advisory board: Mrs. Lloyd (Bonnie) Engebretson and Mrs. Alvert (Clara) Weigand were elected at a recent public meeting to fill the vacancies created by the resignations of Reverend Richard Hamlow and Earl Mittag.

This Tuesday, the acting publisher of the The News and her family traveled to the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis to be with Lester Hayenga as he underwent major surgery. Because of this, The News this week is an abbreviated issue.
