The Eagle Valley Elementary students in Mrs. Hommerding’s, Mrs. LaVoie's and Mrs. Lubben’s rooms have had printer’s ink on their hands quite often the last few days. The students and their teachers are participating in a Newspapers in Education program to learn about reading, writing, and geography. There are over 700 of these programs sponsored by newspapers, schools, or both.

In memory of J. Herbert and Eldora Johnson, the family donated pulse oximeters to the Eagle Bend Fire Department and Bertha Ambulance. The meters clamp on a finger and measure pulse and the percent of oxygen passing through a person's body as they are administered oxygen by the EMTs. Sons Lindy and John Johnson said, “J. Herbert and Eldora couldn’t say enough good things about the fire and rescue squads of Eagle Bend and Bertha. In that spirit, we wanted to do something for you guys.” Pictured were: Steve Weishair, Eagle Bend fire chief; Lindy Johnson; Gary Kleen, Bertha Ambulance chief; John Howard Johnson; and Russ VanDenheuvel, Bertha Police Chief.
