Verndale City Council: Water treatment plant to start operation March 24
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Verndale City Council held their regular meeting on March 9. Ardith Carr and Jim Ackerson were absent.
Water Bill Issues
Michelle Schluttner and Mike Sickels were concerned their water bills were much higher than usual, even with the rate increase. They both checked for leaks or any other reason for the increase with the assistance of Maintenance Supervisor Matt Uselman and found none. Mayor Raye Ludovissie suggested an average for the month as neither of them have had this issue before. He added if the bill remains high next month, they will have to pay it.
Council Member Jim Runyan thinks the meters screw up every once in a while. New meters are coming this summer.
Approved to do a one time average for the two bills. Uselman will check the meters.
Water Project Update
Clif Allen with Moore Engineering said he didn’t get an application from the contractor yet as they have been busy painting inside the water treatment plant. They are on schedule, even a little ahead. March 24 will be the official start-up date.
“This isn’t something you learn in a day. It’s a very different kind of plant. It’s very technical. We’re all pretty happy with how it’s going out there,” said Allen.
The water tower has had progress, but there have been some challenges with DEED and Rural Development. Sometimes it’s confusing who is the lead agency. Both have State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) requirements and both agencies interpret them differently. . . . .
