by Trinity Gruenberg
According to the criminal complaint, on March 30 at approximately 10:05 p.m. the Perham Police Department responded to a call for assistance at 640 1st Avenue in Perham. An officer spoke with Derek Sweere who indicated there had been a disturbance. Sweere said he was bit in the arm by his roommate, Brandon Snyder, formerly of Verndale. Sweere said Snyder was in the house, dead. Sweere stated he killed Snyder, claiming self defense. Sweere said he stabbed Snyder and shot him 15 times. Sweere was placed in a squad car. An SUV pulled up and a female occupant jumped out and yelled, “Is that blood on him? Did he kill my son?” The officer located Snyder on the floor in a doorway and observed large amounts of
blood. EMTs arrived and pronounced Snyder dead. Sweere was taken to the Perham Police Department and interviewed. Sweere said he had a few beers and some brandy, but was not intoxicated. . . . .
