Do you like to decorate your yard or business for the holidays? If you do, you could have a chance to win a prize for the revitalization of the holiday light competition!

The contest originated in 1986 by the Verndale Lioness. Their hope was to encourage people to decorate for the holidays and make the town festive.

Over the years they had outside members, and even people from out of the area come and judge the homes in town and within a three mile radius of Verndale.

The very first winners were Jim and Mary Ann Pierce in 1987, with second place going to Elven and Luella Wambolt.

The contest was discontinued in 2013.

The Verndale Sun and Endless Ink are revitalizing and expanding this competition.

We invite anyone in Wadena County to enter by submitting a photo and a short video of your outside decor taken at night by December 17. You can send them to our email at sun@inhnews.com or direct message us on our Facebook page

The competitors will be voted on by viewers of our Facebook page from December 17-19.

The winning home will be featured on the front page and will be awarded a year subscription to the Verndale Sun, two free T-shirts printed with a design of your choosing, a set of coffee mugs with a picture of your award winning yard on it and a gift pack. And, of course, bragging rights for the best decorated yard in the county!
