Todd County Development Corporation 7th Annual Dinner Meeting: Students highlight the program

The 7th Annual Todd County Development Corporation (TCDC) Dinner and Awards ceremony was held on April 8 with a full house of guests at the  Browerville Community Center.

The meeting began with a meal provided by Dan’s Prize.

TCDC Board Chairman Jim Lunemann gave the welcome along with TCDC Executive Director Rick Utech.

Bertha-Hewitt School Superintendent Eric Koep introduced his students who then talked about their entrepreneurial classes  which include soap and lotion making, the custom metal art signs they create with a plasma cutter, the materials they create using a laser engraver from pens to hats and coasters.

Also included in their entrepreneurial program is the use of aerial drones and woodworking projects from benches to picnic tables.

Along with the students talking about the products they create, they showed some videos they made of some of the processes in making their products.

Also speaking were: Initiative Foundation President Matt Verilek, Consolidated Telecommunications Company’s Joe Buttweiler and West Central Telephone Association’s Jodi Sjolie.

The final two speakers talked about the advances their respective companies are making in the way of broadband communications including getting fiber out to more rural locations.

There were three awards given as well as various recognitions.

The three awards were presented by Lunemann.

The awards were as follows:

• Community Appreciation Award went to LEAP (Leadership, Engagement, Advocacy, Positiveness) and was accepted by Chair Tim Rice.

• Economic Impact Award went to Pro Ag Farmers Cooperative and was accepted by Clarissa Location Manager Joe Wimmer.

• Emerging Business Award went to Agua Gorda Cooperative with Javier Garcia Hernandez accepting the award.

Also presented at the meeting was the 2018 TCDC Annual Report which gave highlights of the work accomplished through the past year by the corporation.
