The annual Verndale Community Thanksgathering was held at the Verndale Alliance Church this year. The celebration of thanks included members of local area churches.

Pastor Amos Self of the Verndale Family Life Church shared a message for those in attendance and worshipers shared what they were thankful for.

The fourth annual pie contest was also held with 18 pies entered for judging. Presiding over the contest was Pastor Tony Stanley and three judges, Brad Cottrell, Cory Carr and Trinity Gruenberg.

Pies were judged on presentation, creativity, overall impression and, of course, taste.

Those who entered pies this year included Polly Uselman, Kenny Kjeldergaard, Zach Kjeldergaard, Andrew Lathe, Jan Lundstrom, Jason Rurup, Betty Watkins, Cami Kjeldergaard, Connie Zimmerman, Dean Gilbert, Karen Trosen, Deb Nelson, Jayden Conn, Sara Cronk, Doreen Vick, Marsha Cameron, Joe Baity and Elsi Anderson.

There were apple pies, cranberry apple pies, peach, berry, smores, mint, coconut, pumpkin and more.

Sara Cronk took first place with her pumpkin pie with a turkey shaped crust on top. The Verndale Family Life Church took the trophy for the second year in a row. Second place went to Joe Baity and third place went to Doreen Vick.

After the service, worshipers enjoyed pie with coffee or hot apple cider.
