Verndale Celebration to be held this weekend

    The Verndale Celebration  will be held July 27-29. You will see some new events including a kiddie tractor pull, silent auction and the return of fireworks.

    Friday night the Verndale Fire Department Relief Association will host a street dance at the fire hall with a beer garden and food. Don’t forget to check out the Home Run Derby and the Old Timers baseball game.

    Saturday morning will be the new Raider’s  5K/Two mile run or walk.  There will also be  golf, volleyball and bean bag tournaments. The afternoon will feature many kid friendly events including the kid's tractor pull. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the pull will begin at 1:30 p.m. 

    There will be much to do with frog races, frozen T-shirt challenges, bingo, hay dive, hoola hoop contest, minnow races and more. There will be prizes for games. The Verndale Museum will also be open in the afternoon.

    There will also be a silent auction held in the park.

    The Verndale Area Food Shelf will be giving away thousands of pounds of vegetables in the park near the old fire hall on Saturday. The vegetables will include cabbage, zucchini and cucumbers. They will be free to everyone! You may want to bring a bag. The giveaway will begin at 10 a.m. until it is all gone. 

    The evening will feature the kiddie parade at 5 p.m. and the grand parade at 6 p.m. followed by the popular duck drop with three chances to win this year, Messy Bessy and the street dance. You will also be able to view the return of the fireworks from Main Street!

    Sunday morning you can grab some pancakes at the community center.

    Locations to vote: Carr’s Convenience, Star Bank, Verndale Liquor, A Bit of Tack store. Votes are $.50 each.
