Verndale School Board: Social issues policy, presentations on Internet safety

The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on February 5. Member Shyla Hess was absent.
Freshwater Ed
Scott Veronen said the Freshwater Education District held their organizational meeting in January. Veronen rotated into the vice chair position on the board. They have partnered with Orb Construction for the new building project. Groundbreaking is being planned for this summer. They hope to have the building ready for the 2019-2020 school year.
Freshwater Ed had a data breech over the weekend in the form of ransomware originating from China. They paid the ransom and are working with their insurance to recoup the fees.
Legislative Report
Superintendent Paul Brownlow shared data from the department of education on the open enrollment trends in rural Minnesota. It is a high number and it could impact Verndale in the future with continued growth. It could change the sports classes. . .
