Wolves repeat as Section 5A Champions

The LPGE-Browerville Wolves wrestling team won three duals enroute to their second consecutive Section 5A Team Championship. The Wolves wrestled the 9th seed Quad County on Wednesday, February 13 in Long Prairie. The Wolves won all but one match in defeating Quad County 72-3. That put the Wolves in their fourth consecutive Section Final Four appearance.
The Wolves traveled to Benson to face eighth ranked and 4 seed Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the semifinals. The Jaguars started fast out of the gate, but the Wolves won the last seven matches to clinch the match 49-15 and advance to the Section 5A Championship for the third time in the last four years.
The Wolves had no easy task in facing the fourth ranked team in the state and 2 seed Minnewaska. The match was tied 3-3 after the first two matches, and then it was all Wolves, who extended their lead to 37-6 and clinching the championship after Gabe Pesta’s pin at 170. The final score was 37-25 in favor of LPGE-Browerville. . . .
