Miss Minnesota Kalie Wright to compete for Miss USA

    Kalie Wright of Eagle Bend, Miss Minnesota USA, will be competing for the title of Miss USA in Shreveport on May 21. 

    Born and raised on a horse ranch in southern Idaho, Wright and her two siblings grew up with the themes of responsibility and self-fulfillment at the forefront of their upbringing. 

    With over ten years of vocal training, Wright was invited to tour with the Continental Singers as a musician­—traveling to 37 states while fundraising for children’s hospitals. 

    Graduating as president of her class, Wright earned a full academic and athletic scholarship to play volleyball and study business and marketing. She spent three years as a spokeswoman for two national charity organizations­—leading fundraising initiatives that raised over $50,000 for military dependents and veterans. 

    Wright gained political business experience working as the executive assistant to the First Lady of Idaho and developed a passion for building and maintaining confidence in young female entrepreneurs. 

    Wright is completing her degree at Minnesota State University Moorhead and is the owner of a wedding and events venue in Eagle Bend.

    The 2018 Miss USA Competition will be held at  George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport-Bossier,  Louisiana. 

    This year’s hosts include Vanessa and Nick Lachey.

    The two-hour special will conclude with the reigning Miss USA 2017 Kára McCullough crowning her successor. Women representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia will  compete for the opportunity of becoming the next Miss USA.

    Miss USA will air live on FOX at 8 p.m. ET.
