Teachers helping students get warm clothes

    Winter is here and the temperature continues to drop. For some families, it can be difficult to afford warm clothes for their growing children. Teachers, volunteers and schools have come together to collect clothes and get them to students and families in need. 

   

    Art Teacher Maria Ervasti, who teaches at both Bertha-Hewitt and Verndale schools, raised money through donorschoose.org to buy warm jackets, snow pants, gloves and other items.

    Teachers can list their classroom projects on the website and people can donate towards it. It is crowd funding for teachers. There is also a section were teachers can raise funds for essential items for students such as hygiene items and clothing. Most projects under $200 get funded.
