4-H Community Center Renovation Bids Rejected

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 6.
Event Center Bids Rejected
The lowest bid for the 4-H community center renovation was $615,500, compared with the architect’s estimate of about $400,000. The 4-H committee recommended rejecting all bids because fundraising could not cover the difference, and the board unanimously rejected them.
The committee discussed a smaller repair plan to make the building usable without a full renovation. Ideas included replacing the failed furnace, putting in new kitchen flooring, and restoring water service. They were also exploring whether the bathroom layout could be adjusted to provide two accessible bathrooms, estimated in the discussion at $20,000–$25,000. The committee was to check with the state about the plumbing plan.
Getting water into the building before freeze-up was a concern. The discussion noted that a plumber may need to submit a new plan for approval, which could take about eight weeks. Commissioners also asked about donations raised for the project: because the building would no longer become the planned event center, some donors might seek refunds. The board wanted more information about the funds and donor preferences...
