The Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie (BHVPP) girls wrestling team showcased its strength and determination this past weekend at the Rick Lee Invite, coming home with several podium finishes and a dominant individual championship.

Leading the charge for BHVPP was Chloe Black, who delivered a flawless performance in the 136-pound Junior Varsity division. Black went 4-0 on the day, pinning every opponent she faced. Her dominant run concluded in the 1st Place Match, where she secured a fall against WCAA’s Ella Mickelson in just 1:09. Chloe’s most exciting match came in the semi-finals against Gabrielle Zoller (9-5) from TRF.  Zoller is a thrower and is extremely dangerous in the neutral position.  Chloe was able to neutralize Zoller’s attacks with superb hand control and great footwork to stay out of danger.  Blacks footwork allowed her to be in a great position for some nifty reattacks that allowed her to score multiple takedowns.  Chloe Black earns BHVPP’s wrestler of the tourney.

In the 124A bracket, Autumn Becker battled her way to a third-place finish. Becker opened her day with a pin over Aliviah Germann (Brainerd) with some aggressive attacks from the top position, keeping her pressure forward and her opponent’s weight on her hands.  She then fell in the semifinals to Zimmerman’s Ellie Rossman (27-11), who was very physical during the match, which sent Autumn to the trainer to get checked over. She showed great resilience and determination by grinding through the pain in the consolation round, bouncing back to pin Aaliyah Line (SCM) in 1:24 to claim the bronze. Tenacity is a word that fits Autumn well...
