Commissioners Tighten Cannabis Rules to Protect Homes and Schools

The Todd County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 21.
Cannabis Business Ordinance
The Todd County Planning Commission recommended that the county board adopt an amendment to Article XII of the Planning and Zoning Ordinance regulating cannabis businesses.
Planning and Zoning Director Adam Ossefoort presented the proposed ordinance changes. He explained that the Planning Commission reviewed the amendment over several months, including during its February, March and April meetings, and heard public comment before finalizing its recommendation.
The amendment sets local land‑use rules for cannabis businesses, including setback requirements from sensitive sites.
After discussion between Ossefoort and Commissioner Barb Becker, commissioners agreed to set all setbacks at 1,000 feet, including from: schools, daycare facilities, residential treatment facilities, public parks, and legally established residences...
