Cross country comes to Verndale

The Verndale School added a new sport to the fall lineup, cross country.

Coach Heidi Brandsma is excited to kick off the inaugural season with her four athletes.

“I like to be part of something new,” said Brandsma.

An avid runner herself, participating in 5Ks with her sisters, she also coached junior high track last year.

Speaking with her junior high track students who were looking to have a cross country team, Brandsma explained to them if they could get the school board to approve it, she would coach them.

Even though the group is small, she enjoys getting to know the kids and their personalities. . .
