Duberowski Advances to 9th Grade State

The wrestling week began on Tuesday with a quad in Paynesville against some stiff competition. The opening round match was against a new conference foe, Benson, as they have joined the Park Region. It was a low-scoring affair with a lot of good matches. After a forfeit for Ruger Oyster, Adam Grabow picked up the decision for the 9-0 lead. The Braves narrowed the margin with back-to-back decisions in front of a forfeit for Logan Becker and a fall for Wyatt Jares, making it 21-6. A hard-fought decision for the Braves’ best wrestler made it 21-9. Hudson Truax added a tech, and Gage Barthel’s major decision mathematically closed the dual. The Braves would take the rest of the matches, but the Raiders won the dual 30-25.
The second leg of the quad was against the 5th-ranked Minneota. The Vikings put the Raiders on their heels immediately with three straight wins. Merrick Hoffman paused the bleeding with a major decision, and a fall for Minneota made it 22-4. Justin Olson and Truax each earned tech falls, bringing the score to 22-14 before the Vikings swept the rest for the 55-14 victory.
The final round of the evening was against the 7th-ranked host squad. In what turned out to be a matchup nightmare, the Bulldogs took the first four bouts for the 19-0 lead. BVPP responded with a Jares fall, Olson major, and Truax tech to get within four. Paynesville added a fall, and Barthel earned a major as the Bulldogs cleaned up the top matches for the 46-19 win.
