Event Center is Way Over Budget

The building rendering for the 4-H/Event Center renovation project at the Wadena County Fairgrounds was created with help from Widseth architects and engineers. Commissioners said the project needs to be scaled back to lower costs.

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, January 13. Commissioner Murlyn Kreklau was absent.

Event Center

Tony Hansen, serving as Regional Director of Minnesota Extension, shared with the commissioners the ongoing challenge of identifying new committee members to represent their districts. Recognizing the difficulty in recruiting volunteers, Hansen gave the idea of making short-term appointments for current committee members if no new representatives could be found in the coming weeks. This would ensure the committee’s work could continue without interruption.

The lease agreement for the 4-H/Event Center building was discussed. Hansen explained that after a previous board meeting, the Extension had submitted an updated lease draft for county review. However, progress had stalled, partially due to competing county priorities and the county attorney was out sick, preventing review of the draft. The delays were acknowledged and it was agreed that reviewing the lease should be moved higher on the agenda.
