The Clarissa Independent 25 Years Ago April 12, 1995 Carol Wendel, a first grade teacher at Eagle Valley Elementary School, was selected as the 1995 Teacher of the Year. Wendel became an Eagle Bend teacher in 1981 teaching first grade. When Eagle Bend and Clarissa paired schools, she moved with the elementary department to the Clarissa School. ********** Arkansas magician Nigel Jackson entertained residents of the Todd County Care Center in Clarissa last week. To everyoneās amazement, Jackson transformed a dove into a rabbit. 50 Years Ago April 9, 1970 Between 800 and 850 residents of Central Todd County attended the fifth annual Appreciation Day at the Clarissa Farm Service last Thursday, it was reported this week by Mr. and Mrs. Merle Benson, proprietors. As usual they served about 140 pounds of ham made into sandwiches, and the visitors consumed about 50 dozen doughnuts, not to mention hundreds of cups of coffee. ********** Two teams of men from Clarissa and Browerville will play an inter-city basketball game on April 18 at the Clarissa School. The game will be in the form of a benefit for the Clarissa High School Lettermenās Club. Among the players in the Clarissa contingent, headed by Manager Morris Perna are: Dick Thompson, Dr. Gerald Jacobson, Wayne Anderson, Gary Sales, Butch Booker, Jack Bain, Duane Skavdahl, Roger Lundstrom, Keith Hinzmann and several others.
