25 Years Ago

November 8, 1995

Allen Bailey, Clarissa Lion’s Club President and Dick Hahn, Clarissa Lion’s Club Gambling Manager, presented Vince Leisen of the Browerville Food Shelf with a donation, a $2500 gift certificate, to purchase needed food at Jon and Rita’s Super Valu in Clarissa. The presentation was made on Monday, October 30. Last year the Lions donated $1500.

The following Eagle Valley third graders have successfully completed the “It’s Your Move!” program as a “Mover and Shaker.” The six-week program was part of the student’s physical education class at school. The main idea of “Movers and Shakers” was to help the children learn more about the importance of fitness and exercise and to motivate them to exercise on their own outside of the school environment. This class was taught by Mr. Jim Allen, Eagle Valley physical education instructor. The students were: Phillip Allen, Barry Lunemann, Aaron Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Tom Holt, Steven Winkler, Kim Hauer, Meg Soli, Theresa Krause, Jessica Host, Megan Taylor, Andrea Motl, Brittany Lorentz and Megan Busch.


50 Years Ago

November 5, 1970

Todd County voters named a new sheriff at the general election on Tuesday. Roman Gothman defeated James Bain in the sheriff’s race.

Wendell Anderson, DFL candidate for governor, scored a smashing victory on Tuesday in Minnesota when he decisively beat Douglas Head (R), for the governorship, by well over 100,000 votes according to the early Wednesday morning election returns.
