Highway 71
Crews are wrapping up work on Hwy. 29. This week, they’ll shift gears to Hwy. 71 between Aldrich Ave. and Franklin Ave. Work in this area will run into early September, at which time both Hwy. 29 and Hwy. 71 will be resurfaced and finished.
Improvements include: storm sewer upgrades, new sidewalks and pedestrian ramps, replacing the signal at Hwy. 29 and adding pedestrian signals at Aldrich Ave. and Bryant Ave.
What to expect: one lane of traffic open in each direction, narrow lanes, lane shifts, closed shoulders and reduced speeds, flaggers in some areas—please slow down and watch for them.
All Wadena businesses stay open, though some accesses may shift temporarily
Sidewalk closures for pedestrians—follow marked detour signs
Truck detour—large vehicles should use Second St. SW between Hwy. 29 and Hwy. 71 (Google Map) due to tight turning space at the Hwy. 29/Hwy. 71 intersection.
Lighting reminder: the city of Wadena will temporarily remove street lights between Aldrich Ave. and Franklin Ave. This stretch will be darker than usual until concrete work is completed. Use extra caution when traveling through the area...
