Hiring Freeze Takes Effect in Todd County - Nearly 4,000 Todd County Residents Use Great River Regional Libraries

by Trinity Gruenberg
The Todd County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, September 1. Commissioner Tim Denny was absent.
The commissioners approved a hiring-freeze resolution on all newly created positions, requiring prior board approval before any new position can be created, posted, or recruited, while allowing exceptions when the board determines a hire is necessary to maintain essential county services, address public safety or legal requirements, or otherwise serve the county’s best interests; the freeze remains in effect until further notice.

Brandi Canter, Executive Director, and Addie Carlson, Associate Director of Accounting from the Great River Regional Library, gave an update and discussed Todd County’s role. This system streamlines services like human resources, IT, purchasing supplies, and processing materials across six counties. Local cities manage library buildings, while counties fund services, enabling residents to access any Great River library branch.
As of August 7, Todd County has approximately 3,900 registered users: 40% utilize the Long Prairie branch, 27% go to Staples, 10.5% visit Eagle Bend, 6.5% use other county branches, and 17% frequent branches in neighboring areas. Many users, particularly in Long Prairie, also enjoy services like Print-to-Go without a library card...
