Lady Raiders Kick Off Season with Solid Performances in Bemidji

The Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale Raider girls’ track and field team traveled to Bemidji State University on Tuesday, March 24, for their season opener. The indoor facility boasts a fast 200-meter track where it is always 70 degrees, sunny, and no wind. As a team, the Raiders placed eighth out of 14 competing schools. Leading the way individually for the Raiders, Piper Dean earned a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:06.70) and took fourth in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches). Danika Wilhelmi placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.25, while Aulani Johnson finished sixth in the long jump (14 feet, 5 inches).
In relay competition, the 4x200-meter team of Autumne Haus, Skylee Hauer, Brooklyn Motl, and Claire Williams placed 10th (2:10.02). The 4x400-meter relay team of Williams, Willhelm, Johnson, and Dean earned a runner-up finish in 4:35.22, while the 4x800-meter relay team of Wilhelmi, Johnson, McKayla Kapphahn, and Dean also placed second with a time of 11:21.65...
