To the Editor:

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to remember survivors, honor those we’ve lost, and reaffirm our commitment to ending abuse in all its forms.

In Minnesota alone, thousands of individuals—mostly women and children—seek help each year to escape abusive environments. Yet many more suffer in silence, afraid to speak out, unsure where to turn or unaware that help exists.

Domestic violence thrives in silence. But together we can break that silence.

Learn the warning signs: controlling behavior, isolation from friends and family, financial manipulation, and verbal or physical threats.

Offer support without judgment, because judgment can close the door to trust; and most importantly, speak up when you see abuse—your voice could be the one that changes or even saves a life.

This October, let’s ignite hope in the hearts of survivors, inspire action in our neighbors, and build a future where love is safe, respect is mutual, and violence has no home.
