Joe Schuller joined the Domian Anderson Funeral Home. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Program of Mortuary Science. He has been employed by homes in Bismark, North Dakota, St. Cloud and Robbinsdale. Originally from Bismark, Schuller recently moved to Bertha from Little Falls with his wife Meg and their sons Bobby, Mickey and Steven.

“Unleashing the power of tomorrow’s leaders” was the theme for the Minnesota Energy Camp which was held earlier this month, and it seems particularly appropriate for Todd-Wadena’s camp delegates. Amie Winkler of Clarissa and Lisa Detloff of rural Bertha both demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities during the four-day camp.

The Bertha Public School will open officially on Monday, September 4. Three new elementary teachers and four new high school teachers will be on this year’s faculty and they are: Thomas A. Mortenson, high school principal; Mrs. Helen Wasch, English; Irene Baumgartner, science; Mrs. Adolph Herseth, Jr., social science and library; Miss Margaret Schueller, sixth grade; Mrs. Becky Donaldson, first grade. One vacancy remains to be filled in the elementary grades.

Bertha’s Postwar Planning Committee mailed out 1000 questionnaires to box holders living in or contiguous to this community. The questionnaires are designed to give the survey committee an accurate estimate of the number of additional postwar jobs that can be made available. The information will allow employers to determine the number of additional jobs they can make available as soon as the military services start releasing men and women.
