Sarah Sieling and Dustin Switters, seniors at Bertha-Hewitt High School, have been named the Outstanding Vocational Education Students for the 2000-2001 school year. The Freshwater Education District, in recognition of students who have excelled in the vocational education area, sponsors this award.

BHV and the rest of Section 6A traveled to Minnesota State University, Moorhead, for the Section 6A Track and Field Meet on Thursday, May 31. The BHV girls team brought few in numbers, sixth athletes in five events, but there were solid performances in every event. Led by Amy Jackson’s performance in the 100 hurdles, they placed second, qualifying for the State Meet. Courtney Stach also had a personal best in the 300 hurdles and qualified for the State Meet.

Bertha High School winners of the American Legion Citizenship Awards for this year were Nelda McIntire and Dale Franklin. It was announced during commencement exercises.

J.C. Miller, 88, president of the First National Bank of Bertha, attended his 60th consecutive commencement at Hamline University in St. Paul. This year had a special interest as two of his grand-nieces received degrees. A Minneapolis Star photographer was on hand and a picture of Mr. Miller and his grand-nieces appeared in the Monday issue of the Star.
