News from Bertha and Hewitt's Pasts

25 Years Ago

June 27, 2001

The children of the Berthat-Hewitt community will have an opportunity to attend the Birak Shrine Circus in Fergus Falls through the courtesy of local businesses and others. Adults who wish to go along as chaperones are asked to call the school office.

The past week found the Bertha-Hewitt Band busy with three competitive parades. The band sparkled with a first place finish (Class A) in Milaca, and an over-all championship in Wadena. The band took second place (Class A) at the Alexandria Vikingland Festival.

75 Years Ago

June 28, 1951

Lightning did considerable damage on Monday morning as a severe electrical storm hit the Woodside and Wrightstown areas. Hardest hit was the Harvey Shanstrom farm where lightning resulted in the death of three cows and a bull. Lightning also damaged the steeple of the Wrightstown Evangelical and United Brethren Church. Many other farms also received damage.

The members of the Hewitt Lutheran Church congregation enjoyed their annual picnic at the Hewitt Park on Sunday with a large crowd in attendance.
