News from Bertha and Hewitt's Pasts

25 Years Ago

August 15, 2001

What is it like to go back to school when you have a family? Kristy Finck, Tyna Richter and Meg Schuller all went back to college within the past couple of years to complete their degrees in education. Kristy and Meg both have school-aged children. Meg completed her master’s degree in secondary English 7-12 and will be teaching at Battle Lake High School. Kristy will be finishing her student teaching at Wadena where she will spend six weeks in kindergarten and six weeks in first grade. Tyna will finish her elementary education degree in December. She is doing her student teaching in Randall. She has been student teaching at the fourth grade level.

The city of Hewitt was authorized by Todd County to hold a special mail election on September 6 for the purpose of voting on whether or not to issue Sunday liquor licenses. City Clerk Marsha Hansen said she will mail out the ballots the week of August 13.

75 Years Ago

August 9, 1951

Bertha area 4-H club members who have gained the privilege of entering exhibits in the Minnesota State Fair are: Evelyn Voge, pie demonstration; Charles Le Count, dairy; Dorothy Leyh, beef; and Harold Anderson, grain.

Alan “Corky” Cornell is in Bemidji attending a music clinic where leading music instructors from all over the nation give private and group lessons. C.L. Linvall, Bertha music instructor, is also attending.
