Sue Bennett is new to the Bertha area. She is the wife of Bertha Chief of Police Shawn Bennett. Sue is continuing the business she ran in the Brainerd area. She is a Creative Memories consultant. Sue does a variety of things from teaching scrapbooking to selling the supplies.

Bertha-Hewitt will celebrate homecoming the week of September 28. The volleyball team will take on Menahga on Thursday, and the football game against Menahga will be on Friday. Queen candidates and their escorts are: Helen Adams, Dave Voeltz, Jessica Hagen, Shawn Hoemberg, Becky Shaw, Steve Parsons, Amy Jackson, and Jake Wilhelmi.

September 20, 1951
A firm of architects has been retained by Bertha School District #51 to draw up plans for building expansion. The agreement calls for the firm to make a survey of what the local building needs are and to draw up plans for an industrial arts, home economics and combination auditorium-gymnasium building.

Just for the record, the 14 foot or so sunflower standing in front of the Bertha Cafe is a product of the sunflower planting campaign put on by the Bertha-Hewitt Sportsmen’s Club. Some of the flower heads measure as wide as 14 to 16 inches in diameter and so tall everyone wonders how the pheasants will be able to get at the seed.
