25 Years Ago

December 14, 2000

FBLA students purchased $100 worth of presents at Browerville Hardware last week for the Toys for Tots program. The toys will be distributed to needy families through he area food shelf. Your donation of a gift or cash can help too.

The boys basketball team opened its 2000-2001 season with a loss to the Bertha-Hewitt Bears 54-51 in overtime last week. For being the first game of the season, fans were treated to an exceptional game as both teams played well and kept the spectators on the edge of their seats as they traded basket for basket throughout the game. Pacing the Tigers was Ryan Gritz with 18 points and Mitch Johnson with 15 points.

75 Years Ago

December 14, 1950

That jolly old gentleman, Santa Claus, will be in Browerville on Saturday, December 16, to welcome all the children in the community. He will appear in the village at 3 p.m. on the street between the Lee State Bank and Gaida’s Store, and will distribute bags of candy and nuts to each and every child present at the above time and place. Santa urges all children in the Browerville community to be present next Saturday afternoon.

The local high school auditorium was the scene last Thursday evening of a very lively gathering, when about 75 persons were entertained at a father-son banquet honoring Browerville High’s six-man football team and their coaches, Ed Zins and Jack Dressen. Team Captain Denis Steinmetz represented the boys and presented Coach Zins and Dressen with gifts from the team.
