It was hot enough to fry an egg. Four Browerville girls said that it took 10-15 minutes to fry an egg on the tar when the temperatures reached 95 on Sunday afternoon. Pictured were: Pantera Quirk, Avree Lion, Annie Boser and Jordan Quirt.

A state auditor’s report for the year ending December 2000 found Todd County still operating in the black. But State Auditor Barb Cullen told the county commissioners that their general fund balance had decreased by $806,303 over a one year time period. She said the difference represented a decrease in the county’s revenue along with an increase in their expenses.

75 Years Ago

August 9, 1951

Although only 47 cases of polio-myelitis and no deaths among Minnesota residents have been reported to the Minnesota Department of Health between January 1 to the week ending July 28, health experts urge people to be alert to any early signs of illness such as stomach upset, vomiting, headache, cold or fever. Any of them may be the first symptom of infantile paralysis.

Fire prevention, the ABC’s of the forest: Break matches before throwing them away. Bury cigarette and pipe heels. Douse campfires with water. Always use the ash tray in your car. Be extra careful with trash fires. Use care in all woods operations.
