25 Years Ago

August 30, 2001

This year 14-24 men’s softball teams will play ball at the 28th annual Polish Tournament at Motzko Field, east of Browerville. Teams will come from Staples, Long Prairie, Clarissa and Browerville. Chris and Kristy Johnson gave details of the tournament. Chris will join volunteers in the field and Kristy will help with the concessions stand.

The Browerville Babe Ruth Baseball team finished their season losing to the Albany Huskies 6-5. The Tigers finished the season strong beating LPGE 13-1 in the first round and then played Albany/Avon in a tough game losing the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Three Tigers players played for Albany in the playoffs: Mitch Lieser, Nate Pachan and Nic Johnson.

75 Years Ago

August 30, 1951

Aiming to secure contributions from at least 10,000 people towards the 1951-1952 budget, hundreds of volunteer workers will soon be covering the 12 counties for the Central Minnesota Council, Boy Scouts of America. Although the main goal is to tell the story of scouting to citizens through the council, investments received as a result of these calls will equal $25,000 which is the amount of the council’s budget for the coming year.

While on the way to Browerville last Saturday afternoon after attending a postmaster’s convention at Duluth, Peter B. Kiselewski, local postmaster, miraculously escaped serious injury when his car left the road on a corner near a farm on the Browerville-Staples road and crashed into a telephone pole.
