The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on May 4.

Music Trip Returns

The Verndale High School is bringing back a major music trip for its students. Band and Choir Director Brian Sterriker has planned a five-day tour to Kansas City next school year for 9–12 grade band and choir students. The trip is tentatively set for March 30–April 3 and will include travel through Omaha for a Broadway show, a performance in Kansas City, a music clinic, museum visit, and a night at the symphony, plus a festival and other activities before returning home. Sterriker chose Kansas City instead of Chicago to keep costs lower while still offering strong musical and cultural experiences.

The cost is about $1,000 per student, covering bus travel, hotels, and event tickets. To help families, the school will use a payment schedule and is planning several fundraisers, including an outdoor band and choir concert with a “burger bash” on May 11, with proceeds going toward the trip. Some students already have money in music fundraising accounts to reduce what they owe. Around 60 students and 10 adult chaperones are expected to go.

The school board approved the trip, and the district hopes to return to a four-year rotation so every high school music student gets a chance to go on a trip.
