The city of Verndale has a new employee to assist in the day-to-day duties alongside Supervisor Matt Uselman.

Mike Willis Jr., 32, began on June 1 and quickly went to work assisting in the storm damage clean-up around town.

“It wasn’t bad. Made the days go by quick,” said Willis.

Willis is a 2008 Verndale graduate and went on to school to become an electrician lineworker. He did that for a year and did not like being on the road. He would be gone for weeks on end.

So he got a job at Hunke’s Transfer in Wadena and worked there for the past three years.

He became interested in the open position with the city when his wife, Chantel, shared with him that Uselman had stopped by to talk about the job opening.

“I met with him and it interested me,” said Willis. . .
