One Year Moratorium on New Data Centers in Todd County

The Todd County Commissioners held their regular meeting on July 21.
Moratorium on Data Centers
After a work session on June 16 and a public hearing where no one spoke up, the Planning and Zoning staff, led by Adam Ossefoort, proposed a one year pause on new data centers. Ossefoort explained that the moratorium will allow the county to gather important information about the impact and benefits of data centers, including economic growth, and to develop permanent regulations.
The commissioners noted that there was a lot of confusion and misinformation about data centers in the community, and they agreed that they needed to approach the issue with clear facts. Some members wondered if the pause could be longer, but Ossefoort explained that state law only allows for a maximum of one year.
