Pine River Man Charged in Verndale Child Sex Assault Case

Adam Charles McCoy, 43, of Pine River, is charged with four felony counts of criminal sexual conduct. The charges include two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving persons under 13 and two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving fear of great bodily harm. Each charge carries a sentence of at least 144 months and up to 30 years in prison, as well as a potential fine of $40,000.

According to the criminal complaint, the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office regarding a sexual assault case that occurred in Wadena County. A juvenile, currently 16 years old, reported being assaulted by Adam Charles McCoy at his former residence on Wilderness Drive in rural Verndale. The juvenile’s mother had been in a relationship with McCoy from September 2016 to March 2017; the juvenile was only seven at the time of the alleged assaults.

The mother stated that her two children were alone with McCoy on several occasions, during which time two other adults and their daughter also lived in the home. She recalled instances where McCoy abused horses on his property and made the children work as punishment when they got into trouble...
