Primary Election Results are In

Primary election results are in for local, state and federal races following the August 11 election.

In the Wadena County sheriff’s race, Bryan Savaloja led the field with 1,333 votes or 43.32 percent. Milo Scott received 560 votes or 18.20 percent, followed by Troy Wangsness with 471 votes which is 15.31 percent. Cory Carr received 437 votes, 14.20 percent, and Aaron Schiller received 276 votes, 8.97 percent.

In the Republican primary for State Senate District 5, Mike Wiener narrowly passed incumbent Paul Utke. Wiener received 5,803 votes or 50.84 percent, while Utke received 5,611 votes which is 49.16 percent. Skylar Fynboh was unopposed in the DFL primary and received 4,537 votes.

In the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Congressional District 7, Michele Tafoya led with 32,813 votes or 44.27 percent. Adam Schwarze received 19,343 votes or 26.10 percent, followed by Royce White with 10,307 votes, 13.91 percent. Tom Weiler received 5,497 votes, Joyce Lacey received 1,853, Patrick Munro received 1,475, Cynthia Gail received 1,318, Bob “Again” Carney Jr. received 1,233, and Ahmad R. (Raafat) Hassan received 282 votes.

In the DFL U.S. Senate primary, Peggy Flanagan led with 22,577 votes or 50.72 percent, followed by Angie Craig with 20,331 votes or 45.67 percent. Kurt Michael Anderson received 778 votes, Billy Nord received 336, George H. Kalberer received 283, and Peter John Murgic received 211 votes...
