The State wrestling tournament was held last weekend at the Grand Casino Arena, with five Raiders taking the mat in the boys division. Leading the way was Hudson Truax with his third appearance and Adam Grabow in his second. While Tanner Schulke, Wyatt Jares, and Isaiah Duberowski were making their debut at the big show.
Grabow got the boys rolling Thursday morning with a quick takedown and dominated on top to get his cradle and the first-period fall for his 75th career win. Duberowski gave up an early takedown, but settled in to hold his own after that, going down in defeat 3-1. Jares also gave up an early takedown. However, he turned the tide with a switch and got to his cradle immediately for the pin. Truax went scoreless in the first period, but quickly escaped in the second and got his takedown moments later. He settled in for the turn and pinned to close out the period. Schulke battled for six minutes, dropping his match by major decision as the Raiders went 3-2 in the opening round.
Friday morning saw all three quarterfinalists drop to the wrestlebacks. Grabow and Jares’ opponents scored early and often as they cruised to tech falls. Truax had a back-and-forth battle, but a late takedown going to his opponent was the difference. Duberowski was the first to bow out of the consolation bracket as he fell by fall to end his eighth-grade campaign. Meanwhile, Schulke controlled the ties and pushed the pace, earning the decision to advance to the evening session...
