News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

December 6, 2000

Eagle Lanes has been a part of our community for many years. It offers entertainment for the entire family. Al and Betty Woida of Eagle Bend purchased the bowling alley from Ted Asmus about seven years ago. The Woida’s have made it a “family business” by running it along with their children, They have nine children, four of whom are still living at home. They reside next to the bowling alley which was Dr. Smith’s eye clinic many years ago.

Eagle Valley Rebels football Coach John Sieling was recently selected for the Prairie Conference Coach of the Year. For the past 23 years he has been the coach for Eagle Bend/Eagle Valley. This year’s record of 19-1 for the season is the best he’s had in his career.

50 Years Ago

December 11, 1975

The Eagle Bend FFA is sponsoring a Crop Show on December 13. The original Crop Show was postponed because of the November blizzard. It will be held in the lunchroom of the high school from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All crop samples to be judged may be brought into the ag department anytime before 12 a.m. on Friday, December 12. Anyone with crops or gardens is encouraged to enter.

The new post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has been formed in Eagle Bend. The new post was charted with 27 members. The charter period may remain open for a period of 90 days. During this period, every new, reinstated or continuous member may become a charter member. Eligibility includes the issuance of a theater of operations ribbon for overseas service.
