On Sunday, July 1, a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house was held at the new Eagle Valley Clinic in Eagle Bend. Pictured are: Tim Rice, president of Lakewood Health System; Dr. Bill Mennis, Staples physician; Michele Fisher, St. Cloud CentraCare site administrator; Tom Hock, P.A.-C; Mel Nefstead, board chairman, Lakewood Health System; Dr. Paul Van Gorp, Long Prairie physician; Toni Tebben, site coordinator, CentraCare Long Prairie; Roy Abbot, architect; and Craig Wolhow, director of clinic services, Lakewood Health System. Hock will be at the clinic four days a week. Two other exam rooms were not finished, according to Toni Tebben, so that they may be used for future endeavors.

Jessica Johnson is a go-getter. She is the daughter of Gary and Beverly Johnson, and completed her junior and senior years of high school at Northwest Technical College in Wadena. Johnson was diagnosed with a type of liver cancer when she was 15 months old. “I figured I beat one thing, I can do other things now.” She graduated with a 4.0 from the accounting program at Northwest and was a high honors student at Eagle Valley.

50 Years Ago

July 8, 1976

Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Skolte of rural Eagle Bend have a beautiful corn crop. The corn is over six feet tall and is in “fantastic” condition. The Skoltes are hoping for a good crop this year if “knee high by the 4th” means anything, this just could be a bumper crop year for them. Mr. and Mrs. Skolte farm a 200 acre farm southwest of Eagle Bend.

After a very enjoyable potluck dinner, County Commissioner Glenn Line rang the giant church bell for two minutes in honor of this nation’s 200th birthday. The church bell at the Methodist Church in Eagle Bend was sounded. Many games for the youngsters followed the ceremony. All in all, everyone enjoyed the fellowship of a fine Sunday afternoon.
