Connie Laing, Great River Regional Library Children Service Staff, is pictured with some of the children who attended the Secret Story Hour at the Eagle Bend Public Library on August 2. They enjoyed having books read to them, saw a short film and did a craft project.

This year’s ladies golf team champion was American National Insurance team consisting of Judy Hinzmann, Wanda Tepley, Darla Thompson, Tammi Jares and Sonja Pearson.

50 Years Ago

August 19, 1976

Hundreds of area residents gathered at Eagle Bend on Saturday to enjoy a dedication ceremony for the newly built Eagle Bend Community Center and for the Lions sponsored corn feed. The corn was delicious and the Lions served over 600 hot dogs. Later in the evening, a free dance was sponsored by the Eagle Bend Fire Department. All-in-all the day was an enjoyable time for both young and old.

The Eagle Bend School officially opens August 24, 1976 at 8 a.m. August 24 will be a full day of school and hot lunch will be served. Cost of the meals for K-6 is 25 cents or $1.25 per week. 7-12 is 30 cents or $1.50 per week.
