Sportsmen's Club Opens New Sporting Park

The Bertha Area Sportsmen’s Club (BASC) has officially established a dedicated 17-acre sporting park just outside of Eagle Bend.
The club is already celebrating a significant milestone: 83-year-old member Jim Harrison recently achieved a perfect score of 25 straight on the trap range.
What began decades ago as a small group of local shooters borrowing space in gravel pits has evolved into a fully developed facility designed for trap shooting, sporting clays, and rifle shooting, with opportunities for expansion into additional outdoor activities.
For years, members of the BASC relied on obtaining permission to use gravel pits.
“We have shot at places where we had permission to go,” said Steve Aeling, public relations representative for the club. “We actually purchased this property through our charitable gambling, which we have been accumulating over the last six years.”
About two years ago, the club made a permanent move by purchasing its own 17-acre property, located five miles south of Bertha and two miles north of Eagle Bend on Highway 71. They named it the Bertha Area Sportsman Park and undertook much of the work themselves by renting heavy equipment...
