There is something dark, sad, horrific, and life-changing that goes on in nearly every community in the United States. It happens in families, churches, schools, youth sports leagues, and other places where children gather.
It is a dirty little secret that no one wants to talk about. No one wants to acknowledge that it is happening on a daily basis.
Child abuse takes on many forms. One of those forms is sexual abuse.
It is the one secret that we guard for fear of retribution, fear of embarrassment, just plain fear of all of the connotations that go along with this black blot on our society.
This scandalous crime takes place under our very noses but many of us never see it or we simply turn our backs on it and pretend not to see it.
Child sexual abuse is the act of forcing or taking advantage of a child by an older person. This can be by an adult or an adolescent. It is done for the sexual pleasure of the older person. . .
