Tigers Battle Hard in Showdowns against Swanville and Benson

Browerville/Eagle Valley - 62,  Swanville - 71 

The Browerville/Eagle Valley Tigers traveled to Swanville on Tuesday night for a Prairie Conference showdown with the Swanville Bulldogs, battling hard before falling 71-62 in a competitive contest.

The game was tight from the opening tip. Both teams traded runs in the first half, with neither squad able to create much separation. The Bulldogs carried a slim 34-33 lead into halftime, setting the stage for an intense second half.

Swanville found its offensive rhythm by shooting an efficient 46 percent from the field, compared to 37 percent for the Tigers. Browerville/Eagle Valley did much of its damage from beyond the arc, knocking down an impressive 14 three-point field goals to just four for the Bulldogs. The long-range shooting kept the Tigers within striking distance throughout the night.

The difference in the game, however, came at the free-throw line and in points off turnovers. Swanville attacked the basket and earned 35 trips to the free throw line, converting 19 attempts. The Tigers went to the line 13 times and made six. The Bulldogs also capitalized on the Tigers’ miscues, scoring 18 points off 16 Browerville/Eagle Valley turnovers.

Despite the loss, the Tigers showed strong teamwork on the offensive end, recording 18 team assists and consistently moving the ball to create open looks. It was a hard-fought effort on the road in a physical conference matchup. Christian Tobas led the Tigers with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Both Brady Reed and Gavin Marxer scored 13 points. Reed also pulled down 6 rebounds. Gavin Marxer and Henry Batista each registered 3 steals. Marxer also dished out 5 assists.

With the Prairie Conference battle now in the books, Browerville/Eagle Valley will look to clean up turnovers and build on their perimeter shooting as they prepare for their next contest...
