Tigers Open Season with Two Victories

The Browerville-Eagle Valley Tiger volleyball team got off to a strong start to the season, defeating the Bertha-Hewitt Bears 3-2 on Tuesday night and the Sebeka Trojans 3-1 on Wednesday night. Both matches were played on the Tigers’ home court.
After two preseason scrimmages, the Tigers have been focusing on being more aggressive with their serves and attacks. With that increased aggressiveness, however, comes a few more service and attacking errors—areas the Tigers will continue to work to improve.
Tigers Battle Bears in Five-Set Thriller
The Tigers and Bears battled closely throughout the first set, with the score tied at 11-11. Bertha-Hewitt then put together a run to take a 16-12 lead and force a Tiger timeout. The Tigers responded, battling back to tie the set at 19-19.
The Bears answered with well-placed shots to take a 23-20 lead. A second Tiger timeout was unable to slow the Bears’ momentum, and Bertha-Hewitt went on to take the first set 25-21.
The Tigers came out strong in the second set, building an early 7-1 lead. The Bears responded with a run of their own, tying the set at 8-8. The Tigers regained control and built a 19-10 advantage. Although the Bears outscored the Tigers 10-6 down the stretch, it wasn’t enough as the Tigers took the set 25-20 to even the match...
