Browerville/Eagle Valley - 59, Henning - 72
The Browerville/Eagle Valley Tigers again took on a team ranked in the top 5 of the Class A polls when they traveled to Henning last week to play the Hornets. And, the Tigers again gave a top-ranked team a good game.
Both teams came out scoring, exchanging baskets. Halfway through the first half, Henning had a four point lead, 15 - 11. The Tigers then took a lead of their own, although short-lived, as Henning took it back.
With the score then tied at 24, B/EV went on a 7 - 0 run for a 31 - 24 lead. Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to maintain that seven point lead and scored just two points in the last 2:20. At halftime, the score was 33 - 32, Tigers.
A slow start to the second half put the Tigers in a ten point hole after the first five minutes.
B/EV wouldn’t back down and was able to pull within five points on two occasions. Free throws became noticeable with B/EV only making 6 of 13 attempts for the game.
Second chances for the Hornets also hurt the Tigers as the Hornets pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
A great effort by the Tigers again came up short. Henning made some free throws down the stretch and closed out this one by a final score of 72 - 59.
Ryan Riedel led all scorers with 21 points.
Also in double digits were Jayden Schultz who scored 16 and Tavin Benning, 12....
