Todd County Commissioners Deny Solar Farm Permit

Preceding the regular Todd County Commissioners meeting held on June 2, during public comments, several residents and stakeholders addressed the board on due process violations and solar energy issues.

Kevin Winkler expressed concerns about alleged due process violations involving county social services and court proceedings. He cited constitutional protections and federal civil rights law, urging commissioners to investigate what he believes are ongoing violations affecting families in the county.

Tina Monson of U.S. Solar asked the board to approve the proposed Eagle Bend Solar project. She stated that the company has addressed questions raised at previous meetings, provided additional information to commissioners, and believes the project meets all legal and regulatory requirements.

Jean Greenwald, landowner, raised concerns about communication and transparency surrounding the solar project approval process. She questioned whether commissioners received her previous correspondence and expressed frustration over how public opposition and the variance approval process were handled.

Dave Harren voiced environmental and economic concerns about solar development, questioning the safety, efficiency, and long-term impact of solar panels on farmland. He also challenged claims regarding tax benefits and argued that local residents could bear potential risks while solar companies receive the primary financial benefits.

The public comment session concluded with the board chair closing comments and preparing to begin the regular meeting agenda.
