Verndale Area Christian Academy Expands with 14,000 Square Foot Addition

The Verndale Area Christian Academy (VACA) has begun a major expansion that will create more classrooms, which will include kindergarten through seventh grade.

The approximate 14,000 square foot addition to the existing facility will create additional storage and maintenance areas.

As VACA grew, they began planning the building project in 2023, with the assistance of the Verndale Family Life Church.

The initial ceremonial groundbreaking was held on March 21 at a scholarship banquet, with nine churches represented at the event.

“We had nine out of 13 churches that supported us there,” said Pastor Kenny Kjeldergaard, head of the academy.

Kjeldergaard said an official groundbreaking for construction followed on May 7, with heavy equipment arriving around June 15 to begin earthwork and foundation preparation.

Soil sampling and site work are underway, with plumbing, concrete, and structural work expected to follow.

Pastor Amos Self of the Family Life Church explained they hope to have plumbing permits by mid-July and to pour cement by mid-August and have the construction for the shell of the building finished by late September. The goal is to have the new facility ready to use by next school year.

The VACA began in 2020 with six students, and teaching two grades per teacher in the same room.

They currently serve kindergarten through sixth grade, with enrollment at 59 students last year. They have seven elementary teachers and the principal, each teaching one grade...
