Verndale School Board

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on Monday, May 5. Member Tony Stanley was absent.

Baseball Scoreboard

The current scoreboard has faulty circuit boards that need to be replaced with a new controller, which would cost at least $5045. The scoreboard is close to 20 years old and has outdated remote access.

The city owns the baseball field, and the school uses it for free during baseball season. Greg Johnson spoke with city maintenance to ask the council if they’d be willing to split the cost.

He presented two options—both would cost $8922, which would either be split between the city and the school ($4461) or use some of the advertising funds, $922, and the city and school would split the remainder ($4000). This does not include the cost of the electrician’s installation.

Johnson added that the softball school board is also aging, and to keep it on the radar for the future, as it is still working for now....
